Hello and welcome to my little corner of the world!
My name is Dr. Joyce, and I am a board-certified dermatologist, founder of science backed scalp first haircare brand Kerativ, virtual dermatology clinic Skin Refinery, and content creator and educator at Tea with MD and all of its associated social media channels. This blog is a space for me to share and connect with you about everything I love – skincare, beauty, fashion, travel, medicine, and also, my family. I’m a recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest and new mom to a spunky toddler.
I started blogging back in 2011 when I took a gap year during medical school at Stanford to pursue a medical journalism fellowship. In between working at the WHO headquarters in Geneva and interning on the medical unit at NBC News, I also documented my adventures in a blog hosted on the Stanford Global Health website (more on that year-long experience here).
That blog is long gone, but I moved into my own online space, this site, in 2013 when I was a third year medical student. I felt so lost and unsure about my path in medicine, and I started writing as a creative outlet. Writing helped get me through some tough times during clinical years, stressful residency applications, intern year, and then dermatology residency. And now…10 years later, I am finally a dermatology attending who has started her own virtual practice! Come to think of it, this blog has been with me and seen me through a whole lot.
My goal is to educate, entertain, and hopefully reach and inspire other women who want to pursue a career in medicine while maintaining work-life balance. It IS possible! I hope you will enjoy what you find here, and thank you for stopping by and being a part of my journey.
