Hospital Dermatology: Skin Conditions seen as a Consultant

Hospital dermatology is very different from what we see in clinic, and this week marks the end of my last weeknight /weekend call, hooray! For the nonmedical folk, “call” means we are on call as a consultant for any skin-related issues that arise in emergency room (ER) or hospitalized patients. For one calendar year we as […] Read more…

National Psoriasis Foundation Resident Meeting

National Psoriasis Foundation Resident’s Meeting

This past weekend I was in Philly attending the annual Resident’s Meeting with the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF), a non profit organization whose mission is to “drive efforts to cure psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected.” I haven’t been to any resident specific conferences before, so I didn’t know what to expect, but […] Read more…

Dermatology Mohs Micrographic Surgery

I’m actually on vacation this week in California with my family (check out my snapchat TeawithMD to follow along on our road trip to Muir Woods and Sonoma), but last week was my first experience rotating through the Mohs Micrographic Surgery service, and since it is such a special and unique subspecialty within dermatology, I wanted […] Read more…

My dear friends, you are in for a treat today. Today I’m spotlighting one of my close friends from Stanford Medical School who is always astounding me with his neverending talents. In honor of the first National Women Physician Day, I wanted to highlight four very special female doctors I've "met" on social media whom I admire and have learned so much from. @freudandfashion is so open and honest about her own experience with her field (psychiatry), making her that much more relatable to patients. I love keeping up with her too, which are so educational regarding psych issues which can be so highly stigmatized in our society today. She makes me want to do more internal reflection and focus on my wellness in the crazy time of residency! is knee deep in intern year but still made time to start a blog that gives excellent and pertinent career advice for young professionals, not just in medicine but beyond. Her recent post on choosing dermatology was spot on and she discusses ALL the important factors that go into choosing your career, even the ones people don't usually want to talk about. Cannot wait for her to join me @nyulangone next year. @lauralacquer showed me that physicians can have SUCH a powerful unique and amazing voice in social media, and that you can do it all while having two cute babies too! She is truly a superwoman and such an inspiration to us all. Hope our paths cross in #derm someday! Last but not least, the beautiful @dr.majestic_md educates all of us through informative and relevant Instagram photos and posts. She's pushing the envelope of being a #physician educator and reaching hundreds of people beyond her ER patients through her online presence. • Thank you ladies for continuing to inspire me and others continuing along the path to medicine. You are all rock stars #nwpd #iamblackwell #womeninmedicine #leanin #medicine #doctors

Happy National Women Physician’s Day!

Today is the first ever National Women Physicians Day, honoring Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first female to receive a medical degree from an American medical school in 1849. She was an intelligent passionate lady who pushed relentlessly for medical education for women, paving the way for female physicians today. As of 2014, there are almost the same percentages of female and […] Read more…
